What is the difference between volatile and non-volatile memory?+
Volatile memory (SRAM, DRAM) loses its contents when power is removed; non-volatile memory (EEPROM, Flash) keeps data without power. Settings and firmware are held in non-volatile memory.
What is the difference between EEPROM and Flash?+
EEPROM can be written and erased byte by byte and is ideal for small settings data; Flash is erased in blocks, has far higher capacity and is used for firmware/file storage.
What is write endurance?+
Each cell of non-volatile memory can be written/erased a limited number of times (e.g. 100,000). In frequent data-logging this limit sets the lifespan; wear leveling extends it.
