What is the difference between an LDO and a switching regulator?+
An LDO (linear) gives quiet, clean output but is inefficient because it turns excess voltage into heat; a switching (buck/boost) regulator is far more efficient but more complex and noisier.
What do buck and boost converters mean?+
A buck converter steps voltage down (e.g. 12V→5V), a boost converter steps it up (e.g. 3.7V→5V). A buck-boost can do both.
