What does an inductor do?+
An inductor stores energy by opposing changes in current; it is used for voltage conversion in switching supplies, noise suppression in filters and tuning in RF circuits.
Why does saturation current matter?+
If the current through the inductor exceeds its saturation rating the core saturates, inductance drops sharply and the circuit misbehaves. So saturation current should be chosen above the circuit's peak current.
What is a ferrite bead?+
A ferrite bead is a special inductor that suppresses high-frequency noise by turning it into heat. It is widely used as an EMI/noise filter on power and signal lines.
