What Is Electric Current? (Amperes)
Current is the amount of electric charge passing through a conductor's cross-section per unit of time; its unit is the ampere (A). One ampere means one coulomb of charge passing per second. In the water analogy, current is the flow rate through a pipe. In a circuit, charges (electrons) move because of a voltage difference.

Current Direction: Conventional vs. Electron Flow
There are two "direction" definitions: conventional current is taken to flow from the positive (+) terminal to the negative (−); in reality the electrons flow the opposite way, from negative to positive. Circuit analysis usually uses the conventional direction.
