What Is an IC Socket?
An IC socket is a connector that lets an integrated circuit be inserted and removed without soldering it directly to the board. The socket is soldered to the board, and the IC seats in the socket.
Why Is It Used?
It lets the IC be replaced (fault/upgrade), lets an MCU be programmed off-board and put back, and protects heat-sensitive chips from soldering heat.
