What Is an FFC / FPC Connector?
An FFC/FPC connector is a very fine-pitch connector used to connect thin, flexible flat cables (Flat Flexible Cable / Flexible Printed Circuit) to a board.
FFC vs FPC Difference
FFC is a flexible ribbon cable of parallel flat conductors. FPC is a flexible printed circuit with a circuit printed on it. Both plug into the same type of fine-pitch connector.
ZIF / Lock Mechanism
Most FFC/FPC connectors are ZIF (Zero Insertion Force): a flap/clamp opens, the cable is inserted without applying force, and the flap closes to clamp the contacts.

Contact Direction

FFC/FPC cables are made with a certain contact count (e.g. 6, 10, 24 ways) and pitch (0.5 / 1.0 mm). The connector and cable must match exactly in both contact count and pitch; also, even at the same way count, the cable thickness must be within the connector's accepted range, otherwise the contact stays weak.

- Reverse insertion: if the contact face points the wrong way, there's no connection.
- Forgetting the lock: if the ZIF flap isn't closed, it stays without contact.
