What Is a Diode?
A diode is a two-terminal (anode and cathode) semiconductor component that lets current flow in only one direction. Its most basic job is to steer electricity one way, behaving like a kind of "valve" or "one-way gate."
How Does a Diode Work?
A diode is built from a structure called the P-N junction.
