How Do You Read a Datasheet?
A datasheet is the official technical document a manufacturer publishes for a component. It contains the pinout, absolute maximum ratings, electrical characteristics, operating temperature and typical application circuits. It is the first place to look for correct part selection and safe design — usually starting from the summary and pinout on the first page.

The Main Sections of a Datasheet
- General description & features: what the part does, its standout features.
- Absolute Maximum Ratings: limits that damage the part if exceeded.
- Electrical characteristics: typical/recommended operating values.
- Pinout: which pin is which.
- Package / footprint: physical size and mounting info.
- Application circuit: the manufacturer's recommended example use.
The Most Critical Distinction: Maximum vs. Recommended
The most common mistake is confusing these two. Absolute maximum ratings are the "it withstands up to here, beyond this it breaks" limit — you don't operate there. Recommended operating conditions are the range where the part works safely and efficiently. Always design to the recommended values and leave a margin to the maximum.
Reading the Pinout
The pinout maps pin numbers to their functions. Usually a notch or dot on top of the part marks pin 1; the numbers proceed counter-clockwise from there. Connecting the wrong pin is the most common circuit error.

You don't need to read a huge datasheet cover to cover. Look in order: (1) the summary on the first page, (2) the pinout, (3) the absolute maximum ratings, (4) the table for the parameter you need.
