What Is the TLP250? Isolated Gate-Driver Optocoupler and Uses
The TLP250 is an isolated MOSFET/IGBT gate-driver optocoupler. While isolating control from power, it supplies the ±1.5 A peak current needed to switch the power device fast; it is used for isolated gate driving in SMPS, inverters and motor drives. Pinout DIP-8: 2 Anode, 3 Cathode; 5 GND, 6/7 Vo, 8 VCC. The output supply must be at the gate voltage (e.g. 15 V) and decoupled.
The TLP250 is an isolated MOSFET/IGBT gate-driver optocoupler. While isolating the control side from the power side, it supplies the high peak current (±1.5 A) needed to switch the power device on and off quickly. For the concept, see what is an optocoupler.
What is the TLP250 used for?
High-side/isolated gate driving in switching power supplies (SMPS), inverters and motor drives. Unlike an ordinary optocoupler it has a strong output stage; it drives the MOSFET/IGBT gate fast, reducing switching loss.

Watch out
The output-side supply (VCC-GND) must be at the voltage needed for gate drive (e.g. 15 V). A decoupling capacitor is a must. A current-limiting resistor goes on the input LED.
