What Is the MT3608? Boost (Step-Up) DC-DC Regulator IC
The MT3608 is an integrated-switch boost (step-up) DC-DC regulator IC. Its small modules step a low-voltage input (e.g. a single Li-ion/5 V) up to a higher output like 9/12 V; unlike buck types its output is higher than its input. The higher the output voltage, the lower the deliverable output current; '28 V' and high current are not possible at the same time.
The MT3608 is an integrated-switch boost (step-up) DC-DC regulator IC. Its small modules are widely used to step a low-voltage input (e.g. a single Li-ion / 5 V) up to a higher output (e.g. 9/12 V). For the concept, see what is a voltage regulator.
What is the MT3608 used for?
Producing a high voltage from a low one (boost), stepping up voltage in battery devices, small display/sensor supplies. Unlike buck (step-down) types (MP1584/LM2596), its output is higher than its input.
Specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Integrated-switch boost (step-up) |
| Input | ~2–24 V |
| Output | Up to ~28 V |
| Switch current | Limited (output current drops with ratio) |
Watch out
In a boost converter, the higher the output voltage, the lower the deliverable output current (input current exceeds output). When turning the module's potentiometer, don't connect a load without measuring the output. A boost has a direct path (body diode) between input and output; it provides no true disconnect/protection. Drawing high current causes overheating; "28 V" and high current are not possible at the same time.
