An era is coming where you reach not just an electronic component's price and stock but also its design data in one place. Soon we plan to offer footprint (PCB land pattern), schematic symbol and 3D CAD model data for parts as well.

What are footprint, symbol and 3D model, and what are they for?

  • Schematic symbol: the part's abstract representation on the schematic (its pins and function).
  • Footprint (land pattern): the part's physical solder area on the board — pads, holes, dimensions. A wrong footprint means the board is fabricated wrong from the start.
  • 3D model: the part's real volume on the board. It lets you catch mechanical clashes before manufacturing.

What will it bring?

When choosing an electronic component, alongside its specs and datasheet you'll also find footprint and 3D models you can bring straight into your design. The "I found the part, now where do I download the drawing data?" problem disappears.

A real scenario

You pick a connector; its price and stock are fine. But you have to find the land pattern from a separate source and draw it by hand, and you move on without checking the 3D height.
